Mediation & Arbitration
Although Bonezzi Switzer Murphy Polito & Hupp Co. L.P.A. is a firm that
every year tries many cases to conclusion, the attorneys in the firm
recognize that select cases are better resolved outside of a courtroom with
the clients’ best interests in mind. Recognizing the value of alternative
dispute resolution, two of the shareholders in the law firm devote a portion
of their time to that practice area.

Patrick J. Murphy has been practicing law since 1974. The focus of his
practice has been civil trial work. During the first-third of his career,
Pat had a very diverse civil trial practice including personal injury,
product liability, construction litigation, business litigation, surety bond
litigation, and some exposure to medical malpractice defense. During the
last two-thirds of his career, Pat has focused primarily on the defense of
physicians, hospitals and nursing homes with respect to medical liability
claims. Because of his extensive trial practice Mr. Murphy developed a keen
interest in practicing within the alternative dispute resolution field. He
has served both as an invited mediator and an arbitrator in practice areas
including medical malpractice, legal malpractice, products liability and
workers’ compensation. Recognition of his integrity, legal acumen and
unbiased judgment by both the plaintiffs’ bar and the defense bar in
Northeastern Ohio has resulted in repeated requests for Mr. Murphy to serve
as a mediator and an arbitrator with ongoing frequency.
Beth
A. Sebaugh has been practicing law since 1980. Throughout her career Beth’s
litigation practice has been diverse in nature. It has included personal
injury, products liability, medical malpractice defense, employment law,
toxic tort defense, and business litigation. She has been an active
participant in professional organizations within the legal community. Ms.
Sebaugh has served for many years on The Cleveland Bar Association’s
Judicial Selection Committee. She has been a member for many years on that
organization’s Legal Fee Dispute Committee, holding chairmanship positions
in multiple years. In 2007, she served as the Life Member Co-Chair of the
Ohio Eighth Judicial District Conference. Ms. Sebaugh has served for
several years as a Business Dispute Mediator for the Cuyahoga County Court
of Common Pleas’ Alternative Dispute Resolution Department. Her well
regarded reputation in the legal community is now providing opportunities to
serve as a private mediator and arbitrator.
